On February 1, 2012, Israel Keyes kidnapped and killed 18-year-old Samantha Koenig before sewing her eyelids open for a “ransom” photo two weeks later. Keyes abducted the 18-year-old Koenig on Feb. 1, 2012, while she was working as a barista at the Common Grounds Espresso coffee shop in Anchorage, Alaska. Keyes never met Koenig before that day and told police he only went there because the shop was open late. Keyes drove to her boyfriend’s residence and stole the card out of the vehicle. Koenig ’s boyfriend actually witnessed the theft but was unable to prevent Keyes from fleeing the scene. He was also unaware of the connection that this burglary had with his girlfriend. As the investigation into the activities of serial killer Israel Keyes unfolded, one victim’s disappearance stood out among the others. Samantha Koenig , a young barista from Anchorage, Alaska, vanished without a trace in 2012, sparking a nationwide search for her whereabouts. Since at least 1998, Israel Keyes , a serial killer, roamed the country, selecting his victims at random, altering his methods to evade detection, and even burying “murder kits” for years before employing them to kill unsuspecting prey. However, Samantha Koenig’s murder stood apart. However, investigators have only been able to tie him to nine victims, including Samantha Koenig , the Curriers, and Deborah Feldman. Samantha’s was the only body to be recovered. When detectives caught up with that card more than a month later, they found a 34-year-old Alaskan man driving a rented car in Texas. His name was Israel Keyes , and he was arrested on the spot. Finally, on March 13 , 2012 , a vehicle matching the description was spotted in Lufkin, Texas, and inside it was Israel Keyes with a bunch of incriminating evidence, including Samantha’s phone and her ATM card. He was arrested and charged with her kidnapping, which resulted in her death.
